Re: M-E Wars creating more 'Nam-War type "head cases" among vets.

It's shameful that reports and figures such as these were and are largely ignored by both the government officials and the "talking heads on Sunday T-V," in their discussions about the states of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Hopefully, the current revelations and actions relating to and stemming from the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed and other such facilities might also bring this "veterans' mental health" aspect to the fore in the mainstream press, and hopefully that might result in something positive being done about the thousands of mentally disturbed Namvets who are now wandering among the homeless and jobless sector of our population.

Greg,
I share your observation and your hopes.
What is equally or more shameful was and is the fact that the only mentions of mentally disturbed Namvets (and now Gulfwar vets) in the newspapers and on T-V had come about following incidents of "bad behavior" on their parts, i.e.; drug-arrests, trespassing, panhandling, stealing food, sleeping on park-benches, urinating and defecating on public properties, beating-up or gunning-down people, etc..
Granting that mentally disturbed people in general, and especially those who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, pose real and immediate dangers to the public when left or "dumped" into the streets without resources, the VA is to blame for ignoring, and/or deserting and "dumping" veterans who are known to require ongoing treatment for this "invisible" handicap.
