Corran Leynier
Name: Corran Leynier
Age: 22
Description: Corran is much like any other minor noble, he has dark red hair, fair skin, with a healthy dose of freckles and - as Leyneir sometimes do - mismatched eyes; one is green and the other a milk blue. It's disconcerting, to say the least. His arms and hands are badly scarred - defensive wounds - and he has a minor limp. He's think for his height and looks to be recovering from illness.
Laran: Shapeshifting (war hound), empathy
Friends/Relatives Corran is a nephew to the Leyneir lord, one of many; the Leyneirs are a large, scattered bloodline. He has three sisters, no brothers and more cousins, uncles, aunts, and foster-kin than he can name. His bredu is Auster Alton, the second son of Lord Alton; they've known each other since early childhood and it's considered by all to be a suitable friendship. He had been, in fact, handfasted to Dorilin Alton until his long disappearance.
Enemies: Corran's close relationship with both Auster and Dorilin does not please Dorilin's new husband; Keith Ardais and Corran's work in the back country of the Alton Domain has made him enemies among the bandits and robbers who frequent those lands.
Strengths/Skills: He's an excellent tracker and woodsman and has spent time as a fire-warden on the Alton hills. Once a solid swordsman, the injuries to his hands have impaired his skills. He can dance well, drink hearty, ride adequately, sing terribly and has a fierce loyalty to his friends and clings bitterly to his emneties.
Weaknesses: Corran's injuries have weakened his hands and impaired his sword skills - as well as such things as climbing and other abilities that depend on hand strength. He's not literate - he leaves that up to the Comyn. He has very poor control over his shapshifting, and finds it difficult to return to human form once he changes.
History: Corran is a Leynier, born and bred on the Alton lands, he looked to serve the Comyn as his father did, and his father before him. Auster was fostered with his family and they became close friends, close enough that when Lord Alton was seeking a suitable husband for his daughter Dorilin, Conner was chosen. Unfortunately, the wedding never took place. Not long after the handfasting period, Corran, Auster and several other men were riding out in response to animal attacks on the western edge of the domain. A pack of feral hounds - the great war hounds bred during the Hundred Kingdom era to kill men - had grown bold and was moving into more settled lands and out of the high mountains. It took weeks of tracking for the men to find the animal dens but nothing could prepare them for the savagery of the animals they found. The hounds fought more like demons than animals; two of the hunters were killed outright and Corran was dragged from his horse and savaged while they attempted to flee. Auster circled back as soon as he could round up weapons and men but Corran remained missing for almost a year. Rumors of some sort of beast-man or wild creature brought Auster back to the hill country to hunt and his traps caught not some lost trailman but Corran - sick and disoriented by the vanishingly rare laran he'd manifested.
