Valerie of Fairlyn
Name: Valerie of Fairlyn
Age: 14 (about 16 in Terranen years, not that she cares)
Description: Valerie is Valente’s fraternal twin but they don’t look too much alike. Valerie is bouncy and active with curly brown hair and a friendly smile. She has a strong chin, hinting at the stubbornness she shares with her brother. She’s not particularly tall and she’s used to hard work. Her clothes are mended and styled after the Alliard fisherfolk, not terribly suitable for the Darkovan highlands. Valerie is a fairly ambitious young woman and wants to be a fisher in her own right and own her own boat.
Laran: none, except for the minor telepathy that is common between twins on Darkover.
Friends/Enemies: Her closest confidant is her brother Valente. She grew up in a large, poor family from whom she’s currently estranged and is married (freemate) to Gregi Lyster of Fairlyn from whom she’s run away.
Skills/Weaknesses: Valerie has been taking care of her younger siblings for some years, as well as doing whatever work available in the area for trade. She can fish, sail, ride, cook and the usual women’s skills of knitting, weaving etc. Because her family was not well respected, she also has bit of street smarts and the ability to hold her own in a fistfight. She can’t use weapons, read, doesn’t know much about history or anything beyond her own village besides rumor.
History: Valerie is a middle child in a large, poor fishing family on the Alliard Domain. Her mother is a widow, never re-married and has used her freedom from a husband to enjoy her life with little regard for her reputation or children. Only the oldest boy, Miklai was born in wed-lock, the other five are nedestro. Miklai, trying to do well by the family as he understood it, arranged a marriage between Valerie and the thatcher Gregi Lyster of Fairlyn. This wasn’t what she wanted, not by a long shot, and she ran away with her brother two days after the wedding.
