Wht can I say, the man with the best voice in music was back, this time in a stripped down storytelleresque gig with a keyboard player ( the one man band) and his guitar, played impecably so that the most complicated finger picking riff became a seemless, seemingly effortless aural joy. A couple of times during the show he wheeled out Bigfoot, a 15' long wooden mechanical drum machine with snare, cymbal and bass box, working like an old musical box with a toothed cylinder acting on spring loaded arms to produce the rhythmic accompaniment to his songs. The stories between the numbers were good, the songs themselves were better. highlights were, as ever, You've got a friend, the first dance from my wedding all those years ago and the final encore, Copperline, which epitimises everything that isgood in a James Taylor performance, great playing, great vocals, a great song with space and sophistication and a warm glow left within after the fact. a remarkable performer, see him before he stops touring- he's getting on a bit now! emoticon
