Re: Lowering CPU temp options
yea it is a bit dusty, Ill have to clean it out. Ultimately I think on of my fans isn't working enough and it blows right on the graphics card.

Re: Lowering CPU temp options
I would say buy a new fan, but thats just me.
I would go with the Arctic Cooler Pro 7.
It's a very good fan for the price. I believe
u can get it for about $30 on newegg.

Re: Lowering CPU temp options
The best config I've used so far for an air-cooled system is as follows:
Thermaltake Armor VA8003BWS
This case has 1 1800rpm 90mm fan in the top for exhaust, and one in the rear, also exhaust.
1x120mm 1300rpm front intake fan, and also one in the rear for exhaust. Also one 250mm fan in the side which blows on the vid card and processor. I'm also using an Asus crosshair board, which is configured for a fanless cpu.
I also spent $45 on a Zalman CPNS9500 CPU fan. Just this fan was enough to keep it running in the low 40's in my old antec case, which was terrible for cooling. Now it runs at 30C idle and mid 40's while overclocked from 2.6Ghz to 3.1Ghz. Internal case temp is about 25C depending on room temp it may get up to 30C. My vid card runs at around 55-65C idle/full load. But that's normal, video cards are able to handle much more heat than other components, plus it's an OC card.
Also take care not to spread too much thermal grease on your processor, it can act as a conductor if it's spread on too thick. Also make sure your processor fan isn't upside down, blowing on the heatsink. It happens. Just unmount it and start her up, WITH NO CPU IN THE SOCKET and find out which way the fan is blowing.

Re: Lowering CPU temp options
Actually it won't really matter which way the cpu fan is blowing. It'll either be sucking the hot air off the heatsink or blowing cool air onto it. You might get differing results but it'll probably be on the order of a degree or two. It's more important to take the airflow of the rest of the case into consideration

Yeah I figured that was coming from you just as I was typing it. Unlike you I know about those things because I'm on the receiving end.

not true. i've seen this happen and it will not blow cool air onto the heatsink. the air in the case is normally warm and in order to keep a heatsink cool you need fresh air flow away from it, not onto it. i saw a cpu idle at 50C and higher because the fan was backwards.

Re: Lowering CPU temp options
Well he sort of negated his own explanation about the fan being reversed not making a difference. The fan being reversed upsets the normal air flow throughout the case. Therefore, it needs to blow in the correct direction...

Re: Lowering CPU temp options
It all depends on how the rest of your case is set up.
