A wake up call
A wake up call
Best friends since I can remember you and I,
You caused me to laugh and bought tears to my eyes,
You have saved me and never even realised it,
We have always been one through it all,
Yet life is busy we have no time for one another,
Days and night pass us by without a word,
I thought it was strange the message you left,
My heart clenched in fear at the sound of your voice,
Its when I received my wake up call,
friends are so precious, I should know this by now,
Yet I had little time to even talk,
Now as I hold you your tears run down,
I realise there is nothing I can do except be around,
The life ahead of you looks like it will be a struggle,
And I promise my friend I will be there through it all,
I have received that wake up call.
For Brett my best friend

Re: A wake up call
At a guess I would say you've written this right from the heart.
Full of loyalty and sadness it touched me and made me think of the true important things in life.

Re: A wake up call
Laurie, your poems all come from your heart. It is evident in every word. I hope things go well for Brett. The best thing a friend can do is just be there. Sometimes that makes all the difference in the world.

from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam as translated by Edward Fitzgerald
