Do You Know? Do you know how much pain
it takes to smile?
The cost of truth
The loss of tears
Perfect images
split apart
put back together
with the superglue of lies
Do you know how it feels
to wake up and think
can I make it just one more day?
and not care
whether or not you got up at all
To feel the mockery of the sun's glare
the taunt of the bird's chirp
Do you know how to smile
when tears drown
your screaming insides?
And knock you off your feet
carrying you to some unknown place?
Do you know how to glow
with synthetic happiness?
The illusion of hope
Do you know how to look
behind all of that?
To see it's the pain
that was supposed to keep me
from becoming
who I fear I already am.
