Some Things Still Amaze Me - Monday, January 19, 2004
Some things never quite cease to amaze me. Things like the sunset, for example. A mere turning of the earth can cause the angle of the light from the sun to change in just such a way as to turn a blue sky with fluffy white clouds into a strange landscape of purple clouds with faint auras of white surrounded by streaks of blue, gold, vermilion—and shades of color I cannot even find words for. That amazes me.
The smell of freshly cut grass is another example. It is as if each blade of grass bleeds and the scent of the blood is as sweet a smell as any on this earth. You just want to stand there and inhale—which is perhaps the way that the severed blade achieves a semblance of immortality. You never forget its dying moment—it lingers forever in your senses.
