Spelling and Grammar (ugh!)
I know... you get/got enough of this in school! But really, if you are making an effort to write something, make an effort to write it well. Spelling and grammar DO count! Despite the fact that most of us don't really care that much about either one, when we read something we notice if the spelling sucks or if the grammar is "wrong." It breaks our concentration and makes it difficult to follow the story. It can make the difference between someone reading your work and saying "Yeah, that's ok" or "Wow! What a great story!"
I always write in WORD and copy over. Two reasonsn for this: 1. SPELL CHECKER! I'm a pretty good speller, but it also catches my typos--and sometimes I'm not quite as good a speller as I think I am! 2. If something happens to this site, you won't lose your work. That is a biggie! I've posted things to sites that have crashed or been closed. You KNOW every word you write is great literature! DON'T lose ANY of it!
Please avoid cyber language. Save it for AIM and MSN and whatever other instant messengers and chats you use.
If you need help with anything spelling or grammar related, just ask! I am NOT an authority, but I have some wonderful reference books that don't get too far from my hands when I am writing. And if I don't know the answer, I'm sure someone else will. And again--especially for younger writers who have not yet learned everything there is to know about the English language (like anyone ever does!)--no question is stupid. And if I laugh, you won't hear it anyway!
