Greetings all!

Hey there everyone,

I've enjoyed this site for a couple months now, and with a 2 week trip to Japan planned for mid-april that means only one thing:

Plenty of questions to ask those who frequent this forum who would certianly know better than I.

Since this will be my first trip outside of the US (I certianly can't count going to canada for a couple days when i was 8) I know very little about what i can expect. All i've learned so far is what i've picked up in the guidebooks and gaijin websites. However, this information is usualy somewhat vague (understandably, I mean who wan't some asshole tourist messing up their local hang out) and they tend not to cover areas that would be of intrest to me... Catfights, hundereds of cosplayers, robotics conventions are all right down my alley. I'm really intrested to pick up on all the little-known areas of Tokyo/Kyoto that have alot to offer a virginal tourist such as myself.

Unfortunatly I'm on a short break from work at the moment, but rest assured. I'll soon be back to post a ton of questions i have which any number of you would likely be able to answer (and even more likely to ignore)

Thanks,
raab

Re: Greetings all!

I know all 5 of you have been waiting patiently, but i recently ran into a bit of legal trouble that put my trip in doubt. Though now it looks like GAME ON, so I thought i'd unload those curiosities i've been sitting on. I'll be in Tokyo on april 7th and will be leaving on the 19th. My friend and i have tenitive plans to travel to Osaka and possibly even out as far as Hiroshina. We don't have any concrete plans and likely won't till we actualy get there. I would like a few nights in a hotel so i'll be set for that first weekend. Any suggestions on what district/hotels would be good to start out in? The JNTO site doesn't help much, as i'd prefer to hear it from the street. http://www.links.net/vita/trip/japan/lodging/tokyogreenhotel.html This is a nice vote of confidence. Also near the electronics district, fun! So where else should i look for my other personal points of intrest? Toys, T Shirts, Oddities, Culture, Scenery, Non-Trendy Backroom bars, Trendy nightspots and bars, soaplands, turntablism, conventions, cosplay, extreme/bizarre shops/points of intrest? If only the stores, clubs, and museums had english webpages for me to paw over. I'm not quite ready to torture myself with the kanji. There are places i've already been turned onto here, but i won't be able to hang out in the used panty shop for 2 weeks. That's plenty to get me started, as a hoteru reservation is my top priority at the moment... I'm hoping the rest all falls into place.
