Posting an Avatar
OK, I'm too dense to figure out how to post an avatar. I even looked for the instructions RedHeadElizabeth alluded to in the "posting photos" thread. Still couldn't find the secret. I decided to start a new thread here so the instructions (to be given by someone shortly <g>) can be more easily found.

Re: Posting an Avatar
Let me try here ... go to Control Panel (a link on the upper left of most pages) and once there, press the "Miscellaneous settings" button. The first line on the next page is where you insert the URL to the avatar (which should be square in dimensions or else it will look funny). After saving that, the next time you post a message, wherever you have messages posted the avatar will become populated to them. Hope this helps.

Re: Posting an Avatar
Thanks for the reply RedHeadElizabeth.
I did see that URL for avatars but that implys the actual picture must be posted to some public place outside of ones home computer. I was expecting to be able to upload the avatar to this site.
Am I correct that the picture must be on some public site?
All of my computers are behind a firewall and don't use reachable URLs for virus protection reasons.

Re: Posting an Avatar
That is correct, it must be an external site. Many around these parts, as do I, use Imageshack. However, if it won't work for you, that's the way it goes.

Re: Posting an Avatar
hmmm, well that's 2 strikes. I was trying to post a reply to see if my avatar would be picked up. It wasn't AND I can't delete a note that I put in. Would the moderator please delete these last two notes of mine to free up some of your space and reduce clutter. First time I've seen a BB that I couldn't delete my own notes from.
Now to figure out that avatar URL.

Re: Posting an Avatar
Well, obviously I got it. After I loaded my image up in ImageShack, sized as an Avatar, ImageShack came back with a done page. I needed to use the URL link in the area called Direct link.
You can get to this same link by right clicking on the image you want to use (it should be a square image as this is how avatars are automatically sized when shown.) When you right click on your image one of the options is "Share It", its the first option. Click that. The link you want to use is under Thumbnail code, Direct. Click on that link, the entire link is selected and changes color (probably blue). press the <Ctrl> and the <C> keys at the same time (the <Ctrl> key works like the <Shift> key). Then go to the spot where you put in the link to your avatar that redheadelizabeth mentioned and press <Ctrl><V>. and it'll paste your correct avatar URL to this site.
Interestingly, it is a real time link to all your previous notes, I didn't expect that but should have.
