Meredith, I checked the rates at the gym. It was $45/30 minutes, $75 for 1 hour. This is higher than I used to pay but that was many years ago. These are straight therapeutic massages.

I used to make extended trips to Asia a couple of times a year in a former job. On one trip to Taiwan there was a spa offering steam baths, hot tubs and massages right next door to the hotel. At that time I had never had a massage before in my life, and did not know what to expect.
Debated for a few days about getting a massage or not. One evening after having spent a couple of hours in an expatriate bar next door, a massage started to seem like a good idea, so I went over. Made an appointment, and then killed some time waiting in the hot tub and steam room. The massage was great, and at the end the masseuse asked if I wanted a "special". I declined 3,4,5 6 times or more, but the whole time she was asking if I wanted the "special" she was holding on to me (if you know what I mean  ). Finally the little head took over control from the big head and we proceeded.
Also have had a couple of massages in Macaco, which were a bad experience; the girls were tiny and their massages felt like you were being rubbed and kneaded by a misquito. Jakarta where the massage was good, but you couldn't beat the girls away with a stick if you didn't want a "special". About half the time if you refused, they just went ahead anyway and didn't charge extra (interesting behavior for a Muslim country, not that I have any idea what the normal customs are). Massages in Bangkok were in a whole different league (but no sex) and a whole different story.
I had my first massage in probably 10 years last week at a spa while in Desert Hot Springs. A deep tissue massage. Lasted about 1 1/2 hours, hurt like hell, but felt great afterwards. Very professional and no "special" offered or requested.

Liz,
There are a number of euphemisims, but I think that a "release" as used elsewhere in this topic equates to "special". I don't think I should get more specific (graphic) than that here on this board. Hope this answers your question/curiosity, if not let me know.

I have found a few places that will provide a massage that includes 'release' - these are offered by both males and females - and either one is great!!!

I am a massage therapist at a relatively upscale spa. I have never "released" a man, however, I have "accidentally" rubbed a couple while massaging their upper leg. I do have a regular female client who prefers to be massaged nude without any draping. There have been two sessions where she has walked away happy! In fact, now her and her husband are great friends of ours. For the past year, every other weekend we swap husbands for a night
