Open Marriage
I saw this article on AOL about a book on "Open Marriage". The name of the book is, "Open: Love, Sex and Life in an Open Marriage", by Jenny Block. Here is the link to the article:

Some of the reviews at amazon.com were very favorable for the book and her lifestyle.

Maybe with all the divorces today, this may be a better way to live if your spouse agrees to it. I have always liked bisexual women, so I kind of like her way of thinking.

Re: Open Marriage
i do think a open marriage is healthy..especuially for the couple that doesnt' have matching libido's....and if the husband gets to join in too, what is the point...i know of some couples that both the husband and wife have boyfreinds and girlfreinds....as long as everthign is talked about and in the open and everyone is safe...

Re: Open Marriage
Read the book. It's interesting, but I found it mostly an account of her life. Didn't find a lot of deeph philosophical insight, or "how to" information. Having said that, just having a book out there on the topic, and one that is selling well, and by a fairly prominent writer, is major progress.
My wife and I are open. So maybe the book would be more of an eye opener to people who are new to the experience.

Re: Open Marriage
I was able to find the first chapter of the book on line and here is the link to it.

She is a very good writer and it is pretty much an account of her life as Danglin said earlier.

Re: Open Marriage
The older I get, the fewer answers I have!
Yet I can say that a great decision I have made in my life is to work HARD at our relationship, to remain monogamous and live through dry and difficult times.
The sex is intense and wonderful in our relationship - even as one or both of us biologically struggle.
And yes both she and I have had opportunities to be involved with men/women. Yes she and I know that others who have open marriages and are joyfilled.

Re: Open Marriage
I read the first chapter of Jenny Block's book. I've never been married, so it's a little difficult to put myself in the place of a wife who is in an open marriage. Truly, I don't know how I'd feel about that. I have lots of married friends - some happy and some less so. But I have a sorority sister from college who is in an open marriage and I think she is very happy.

Re: Open Marriage
I'm one of those people that others share information with relatively freely. So, I frequently have the inside track on other people's relationships and social lifes.
One of the things that has surprised me, as I got older, were the number of couples that I discover were open. I estimate at least 30% of couples in my circle of friends are open. That seems like an incredibly high number, but those are only the ones I know about. It doesn't count the marriages in which no one has told me anything. yet.

Re: Open Marriage
i'm a little confused about what an open marriage really is, and i'm wondering if someone can clarify it. does it mean the husband and wife can have relationships with other people, or can just have sex with other people without their spouse being there?
i don't think i could be in an open marriage, no matter what the specifics of it are. sex together with friends, either swapping or in a group, can be a lot of fun, but i think it's something a couple should do together. i wouldn't want my gf/wife to have sex with whoever she wants without me even knowing about it. i respect other couples who choose to live this way, it's just not for everyone.

Re: Open Marriage
I am unsure if an open marriage would work for me, but I KNOW that it wouldn't work if my (future?) husband and I weren't both on board with the idea. Messing around behind each other's back isn't for me - I didn't like that even in high school.
