Re: Thongs for ladies, bikinis for men
quote: Unfortunately, in the Canary Islands, bikinis for men may be common, but in the US...not at all. I'm still waiting for that fashion pendulum to swing in our direction!
Seems that in America that guys in bikinis - just had a weird mental picture of a guy in an actual bikini (bi = 2), maybe we should call them kinis - is the equivalent in Australia to guys or girls in thongs. Not illegal, but not that common. Why wait for the pendulum to swing? Wear want you want and enjoy it. Let others worry about what is or isn't in fashion!
Cheers,
Graeme

Re: Thongs for ladies, bikinis for men
Wear what you want, or better yet, have the courage to wear as little as you can.
On my home beach quite a few women wear thongs but very few go topless, and when they do they do they are rather discreet about it becuase it's technically against the law, although I have never heard of it being enforced.
Because it's in the US most of the men are far to scared. Most wear board shorts but quire a few wear speedos or similar. Only a few of us have the courage to wear thongs.
When I wear a thong on the beach the reactions are all mostly positive but with the occasional insult from some red-necks or teen boys just to keep it interesting.
As to which takes more courage, topless women or men in speedos, I think the question is wrong. Having courage is only the ability to overcome your fears, so the question is which is most scared, the women or the men?
In this case I have to say the men are the scaredy-cats.
Scaredy-Cat: One who is excessively fearful.

Re: Thongs for ladies, bikinis for men
I am in the US and never wear more than a small "bikini" to the beach. Occasionally I will encounter stares and/or rude comments, but not very often. I also really enjoy wearing a thong whenever I feel I can without getting into any trouble. (Guys have to be careful of that.) That will always turn heads and generate lots of comments. I always confine my thong-wearing to the beach, putting on shorts for any off-beach excursions. But when wearing a bikini I frequently will walk to and from my car and/or hotel room without a cover-up. Depending on the location, that will also attract attention.
