Thonging in South Florida
I was recently in South Florida for a friend's wedding. I stayed in the hotel room with an old friend of mine. She was actually the girl who got me into nudism in the first place. Even though she's a nudist she's very reserved and doesn't want to show "too much" in situations where others might not appreciate it. I'm more the type to push boundaries because that's how we change things.
On our first day there we were just going to take it easy around the hotel so we went to the local beach. I wore my thong and talked her into wearing hers. She wanted to bring regular bottoms but I talked her out of it because I knew that she would just change into them if she had them. When we got to the beach we saw a middle aged woman wearing a thong bikini. She was on the beach with her mother and 9 year old son. We sat near them. They were Italian tourists. We chatted with her a little bit. The son and mother didn't speak much English so we didn't really talk to them. We never discussed wearing thongs because she never said anything about it. I thought that it was cool that this 40 year old woman felt comfortable enough to wear such a small thong string bikini in front of her son and mother and they didn't seem to have any problem with it either.

That is definitely cool. Not surprisingly she was European, as it seems Europeans are much more relaxed than us Americans when it comes to beach attire and other issues like this. Wish I lived closer to South Florida.

In South Florida it much depends on which beach and at what time of year, or day.
As a general rule thongs are OK on all beaches in South Florida with one exception, beaches inside the State Parks, although the State Park ban does not seem to extend to Key West.
For all other city and county beaches thongs are ok on both men and women.
For most of the rest of Florida almost all beaches allow thongs but there are one or two towns and counties that don't allow thongs in the bible belt. So check out your destination by searching on the Thong Wearers Message Board for reports on the beach or park you intend to visit.

South Beach Trip Report
Just got back from a few days in SoBe. The beach was great and there were plenty of thongs, topless, t-backs, you name it. I spent the entire time in my tiny thong with no problems. I was far and away the least covered man, but there were many women wearing the same or less which was nice for a change. And after the first day I always walked back to the beach shower without covering up and used it in my thong. That definitely caused quite a stir, but no problems, and the last day another girl in a thong joined me. When I commented about her having her top on, she assured me that was only because the shower was in plain sight of the street and traffic and all the beach shops, etc., and it would come off "as soon as I crossed the dune line".
Got a great rate at the Chesterfield Hotel, a small mom and pop hotel right in the middle of the Art Deco restoration area (9'th & Collins). It was great. The hotel had a "sun deck" on the roof with a jacuzzi. The first time I was up there no one else was around so I used the jacuzzi nude, along with the outdoor shower to rinse off before and afterwards. The next time I noticed a security camera pointing right at the jacuzzi, but since no one had said anything before decided to ignore it. No problem. The next time there were several people there, so I simply asked if anyone minded that I didn't have my suit with me. No one did, which was great. And if anyone was watching the camera anywhere I never heard about it. Staying right down in the middle of all the "action" was certainly a unique experience which I would recommend. But don't bring a car; it will only get in the way and you can easily walk to anything.

It would been surprising if there had been a "stir," I would think .... my husband has worn a g-string there off the boardwalk and in the area around the park, went in the water, etc. and that didn't seem to register on anybody, even a dozen or so years ago.

Wow, that is impressive. Maybe the "dozen or so years ago" helped, and SoBe was better then, hard to say. But regardless, it was certainly a good time. Only problem is figuring out when I can get back there.
