What beaches are thongs legal? (VA,NC,MD)
Its getting to be beach season and ive only just started to get the guts to wear a thong on the beach last summer...well im hooked now :-) I just want to be sure that wherever I do it that its absolutly legal. I just dont want any embarassing situations with patrols or getting tickets or whatever. I know for sure that just about everything is illegal in Va Beach like thongs, cursing in public, obscene tshirts, etc... so thats out of the questions. Its too busy there anyway.
The main areas I was wanting to know though is in Hampton, VA there is a very private beach called Grandview Beach that is some kind of national preserve which is where I started wearing them last year. If you are looking for a beach to find the guts to actually start wearing them, THATS the beach! Its very remote and not too many people know about it from what ive seen. You could get away with anything there too! Ive learned that i have had quite the exhibitionist inside me since then too!!! :-P There are also a beach that goes along the Chesapeake Bay where the Chesapeake Bay Bridge starts. Not sure what city thats actually in though. I dont know if its legal there either.
Also what about the whole Nags Head/Outer Banks area? I see so many mixed messages about weather its legal there or not, or which parts and so on.
Whats the right answer? I hear there are beaches in MD also but never been to any. I hear things about Rhoebeth Beach (thats probably misspelled) about things being legal there but still unsure.
Ive tried looking at websites for those cities and counties about thong laws but never any luck there. I know its sometimes possible to get away with it all but really wanted to know if anyone had definite answers to the laws. Thanx!!

The laws in most places aren't specific about thongs, they usually just say that indecent exposure is illegal. What's really more important to know is what is generally considered acceptable. If lots of other people are wearing thongs it should be fine, if no one else is wearing them you may get in trouble even if they are technically legal in the area. I can't remember seeing any thongs at any of the beaches I've visited in the three states you mentioned.

The last time i saw a girl wear a thong bikini on a beach was in Va Beach and that was about 5 or so years ago. Va Beach is a super busy and commercial beach and she had more guts than i probably could being it was so busy. she had no probs walking around to the water and back with her BF and all that. They were right next to where we were laying out and some of the people around them were complimenting her as well as telling her she cant be doing that cuz they are illegal. They couldnt believe it, they were from Florida too, lol! Anyway, Ive kinda assumed that thongs are out of style pretty much cuz you just dont see them anywhere anymore. I wouldnt wear them where its real busy or where kids and families would be around. I have some modisty when it comes to that still. Ive seen swimming pools with signs that actually say No Thongs but you just dont see signs on beaches...grr!!

In Virginia, i do not know of any beaches that allow thongs in general. However, I wore mine at Ocean View one weekday afternoon last year and recieved no negatives. I suspect on the crowded weekends it would be different.
I beleive the Grandview Wildlife Preserve would be OK for a thong also, but that is only what i have heard. Apparently there is a substantial walk to get there.
The best bet is NC, the Outer Banks. The further south you go, the more carefree the atmosphere. The beach patrols have passed me numerous times in both Nags head and hatteras without a top, and wearing my thong. Occiaisionally some beachgoers are offended, but most are very friendly.
I may test the limits this summer at some more of the local beaches. It is so much easier during the slower weekdays.

I would say that thongs are legal in NC on state park beaches. We go to several different beaches regularly and wear our thongs all day with no problems. Park rangers ride by without a second glance.

I realize you're not asking about SC, but I just returned from a week there (near Myrtle Beach) and in the Visitors Guide it specifically states that thong bathing suits are illegal on "the Grand Strand" and that wearers will be arrested.

How sad is that? With everything going on in the world that needs to be addressed and corrected, people can be arrested (!) for the type of clothing they choose to wear and/or the amount of skin they choose to leave uncovered. Not for their actions, but simply for their style of dress...or undress.
That's beyond ridiculous, at least in my opinion.

Ridiculous maybe, but completely believable when you realize that the U.S. has five percent of all the world's prioners. One in every 100 adults in this country is incarcerated.
When you consider that includes people busted for possession of a single joint and women who took their tops off in the wrong place, it becomes clear why we're viewed as such prudes by the rest of the world.
