I never liked panty lines so I started wearing g-string underwear many years ago, but always found them uncomfortable. When thongs became popular, I switched to them. One time in early Spring my then-boyfriend and I were walking on the nearby beach. We had shorts on (we didn't bring suits because we thought it was going to be too cool, after all, this is Maine) and I had a thong underneath. It got warmer than we expected, and the beach was deserted, so I just took off my shorts and top leaving my underwear thong on. It felt great. After that I bought some beach thongs and have never worn a regular bottom since. And I haven't worn a top at any beach since college and no one has ever said anything.

A few years ago I would never have even considered wearing a thong bikini. I have always been pretty fit, but I had really low self-esteem about my body. Then I met my wonderful husband who convinced me to be a little more daring. He loves swimsuits and beach vacations, so on our first trip together he surprised me with two WWs. It took a few days for me to get up enough confidence to wear them in public, but once I did it was so freeing and nothing bad happened to me! I don't know what I was afraid of happening, but whatever it was it didn't happen. Since that first trip I have started wearing thongs pretty regularly on our vacations. I have about 5 WWs in all now and quite frankly wearing anything else feels like too much material! -KT

To say it first: I´m at the beach or at the swimming pool always in a thong bottom or in a g-string - no tops!
I bought my first thong at that legendary vacation to Eivissa in the summer of 1993 when I sunbathed for my first time topless. It was that woman from which I told who introduced me not only into toplessness but also into "thonging". She wore really the skimpiest string-bikini I´ve ever seen, only some straps around her hips and her chest and three very, very tiny pieces of textile in the region of her pu.s. and her nipples who let saw simply everything - not to say that her "top" came down just before her beachbag. But it looked so damned hot that I took off not only my own top, too, but also bought a skimpy thong bikini the next day (from which I wore only the bottom part afterwards).
I don´t know if there exists ww´s at that time (it seems to me today that this girl has had one). I only can say that I needed three or four more summers to came down with my beachwear to them

The winter of 2007 was the first time I wore a real thong bikini with a micro string top. I was very subconscious at first, but my husband purchased the suit and I wore it just to please him. At first, I was a little put off by the scarcity of material, which does take some time to get used to. I have been wearing conventional bikinis for many years so it was not a huge leap.
I first wore the suit sailing on a 40ft boat we chartered in the Caribbean. As it was just the two of us, this was not a big deal and I got used to wearing it. In fact, I started wearing it all the time—even when we pulled into harbour, etc. My husband was very supportive; he routinely told me how beautiful I looked, that he could not take his eyes off me, etc. I am not usually one who likes much attention, but this is exactly what I love about my husband.
After wearing the suit for 2 days or so on the boat, we anchored our boat just off the Peter Island Marina in the British Virgin Islands. After many trips to these islands, this was our first time to Peter Island which is quite upscale. We decided to stop here as it was the anniversary of our engagement, and Peter Island has excellent restaurants (both Tradewinds and Deadman’s Beach Bar and Grill are great!).
Anyway, we arrived before noon and wanted to spend the day exploring the island and relaxing—and especially not sailing as it was our anniversary. Well, to make a long story short, we started exploring the island and eventually found a beautiful stretch of beach --Deadman’s Beach, Little Deadman’s and Honeymoon Beach all form a beautiful crescent shaped beach of white sand and turquoise water. This is not a private beach, mind you, it has cabana chairs, beach chairs, yachts anchored in the harbour—but it is spread out—so it is not South Beach by any stretch of the imagination. Also, the Peter Island crowd is a bit conservative—the yacht crowd a bit more anything goes.
Well, as you have probably already guessed, we arrive at the beach and decide to spend the afternoon there swimming, sunning, reading, etc. So we round up some chaise lounges, find a great spot—and that is when I remember that under my touring clothes, I am wearing my new micro thong bikini—that is way too small and I don’t have half the boobs to fill out properly. With this thought, I am struck with fear. It would probably take 45 mins or longer to walk back to our dingy, motor back to our boat, change and reverse course back to the beach. But, in my mind—I never bargained on wearing this kind of suit on a very public beach at a 5 star resort—this was supposed to be fun on a private yacht with my husband (only)!
I don’t know if I am lazy or what, but I decide I am not walking back. So, we lay out on the chairs—I decide that I am just going to keep my shorts on and make the best of it. So, we are lying out for a while and it is blazing hot. After probably 45 minutes or so, my husband indicates that he is overheating and asks if I want to go for a swim to cool down. Not wanting to leave him, I decide that I’ll remove the shorts and just get into the water before anyone notices. The beach wasn’t that crowded—so it wasn’t a big deal. I am not sure that my husband knew what suit I was wearing, but his smile and loving comments indicated that he approved.
We went on a great adventure swimming the length of beach, exploring some shallow rocky areas moving back and forth between deeper areas and more shallow areas. At this point, I have basically forgotten that I am wearing virtually nothing. The water felt great, and we are having a great time. A few times when we were exploring close to shore, I noticed a few people looking at me (interestingly both men and women)—and this made me uncomfortable at first—but just tried to ignore the eyeballs facing my bare bottom. At first, I have to admit that the “New Yorker” in me wanted to yell obscenities at them. But as time passed and I became more used to it, I actually started going towards the shallow areas to show off a bit (exhibitionist is the last word anyone would use to describe me). There was a guy trying to get his dingy off the shore who actually went overboard trying to get a look—kind of funny or sad—depending on your perspective.
Needless to say, I become totally comfortable with the micro thong style of suit and spent the rest of the afternoon swimming, sunning, reading, etc --without my shorts. For first-timers who might be less than fully endowed on top, I have to say that the smaller (micro) triangle bikini tops are great for small-chested women—this is one of the few bikinis that is properly proportioned for my breast size.
The rest of our trip was great. I continued to wear the suit--- and especially enjoyed snorkeling around the “Pelican’s” as well as the “Caves” off Norman Island. This kind of suit even turns the heads of fellow snorkelers, which is hard to conceal.
I suspect -knowing myself pretty well- that I will have to get used to the suit again next year as well as the attention. I definitely cannot wear it to the country club this summer—I am already one of the very few who wear a regular bikini there. But, there is a part of me that is secretly excited to sport minimum coverage again—I need to be anonymous to all but my husband, but it does have a thrill aspect to it.

Two topics - “How you got your first thong” and “Topless in front of family”:
From the first time I wore a bra, I hated wearing it, and my mother said that as long as I wore one to school (and supposedly whenever I left the house), I could go without one around the house if I wanted to. Getting rid of my bra was usually the first thing I did when I got home from school, and except for a few times, I would go without one all summer.
When I was 14, we moved into a house with a backyard pool. The backyard is quite private, so one day while sunbathing, I decided that wearing a bikini top felt too much like wearing a bra and I didn’t like the tan lines that it produced either, so I took it off. It felt nice without it. When my mother discovered me without my top, I thought she would have a fit, but she surprised me when she said that if I wanted to swim or sunbathe without a top it was OK with her. At first, I would only remove my top while sunbathing, but within a day or two, I started leaving it off while swimming too. I was much more comfortable without it. And my confidence was increased when my mother would remove her top and join me while sunbathing. However, when I told my mother that I was a little worried about what my father’s reaction would be when he learned I was going topless, she said that he already knew about it and that it was OK with him and that I didn’t need to be shy or embarrassed being topless when he was with us at the pool. She was right - the first time I was topless in his presence was no big deal for either one of us. After that, I started leaving my top in my dresser drawer and would wear just the bottom half of my bikini around the house and backyard practically all day long.
I think it was the following spring when I mentioned to my mother that I needed a new bikini. We went shopping at a swimwear store where I saw some thong bikinis. I showed one to my mother and said that I wanted to get one. When she saw that the tops and bottoms were sold separately, she suggested that since I probably wasn’t going to wear the top, instead of buying both a top and bottom, I should buy two bottoms. Since I had already discarded my old bikini, during that whole summer, the only bathing suits that I had were those two thong bottoms. If my cousins showed up to use the pool, and if I was going to join them in the pool, I had no choice but to go topless, but I was so used to being topless by then that it really made little difference to me.

In my previous post I should have added some additional information.
When my girlfriends learned that I would swim and sunbathe topless in the backyard even when my parents were around, they were amazed that I wasn’t embarrassed. But my mother often said that she was happy that I wasn’t embarrassed or shy about my body. It was something I did throughout my teen years. When I got married, I lost the opportunity to be topless outdoors. Our yard is just not private enough. So the only time I can enjoy topless swimming and sunbathing is occasional visits to my parent’s house, something that is just not often enough to suit me. However I do go barefoot and braless as much as I can, and in the summer, I regularly go topless around the house during the day, usually wearing shorts or sometimes just panties, while doing household chores or reading or using the computer.
I recently had the opportunity to enjoy being topless on a beach. I had been telling my husband that for our next vacation I wanted to go somewhere where I could go topless. Through a friend of a friend, I learned that there was a small house in a small town in Mexico that was available. We enjoyed two weeks there. I took several bikinis, both with and without matching tops. I quickly discovered I didn’t need to bring any of the tops. I spent most of the day topless, lounging on the beach, walking along the water, using the small pool, just enjoying every minute. It was great! I can’t wait to go back if the opportunity presents itself again.

i wore my first thong when i was 17..right before senior year... and i wanted to be really tan for my senior picture...so, i spent a lot of time i nthe backyard...and one of my freinds got a thong , and she told me how good she looked in it, and all of the sun she got..and how horny she would get...
so, i went to a local store and boght this white thong and bikini top..and this i started to shave...lol..... and have ever since..anyway in my back yard i feel like i could do about anything...wasn't totally comfortable top-free yet..and didn't wantto go naked..i just loved the tan line that thongs and bikin top ...now i like the overall tan look..

I had worn bikini swimwear for years and occasionally, thong underwear. The same goes for my fiance. While on vacation alone to the Gulf coast of FL, I got a couple Skinzwear thongs and wore them at a public beach known for being thong friendly. After a few more thonging experiences and meeting my now fiance, I mentioned thong swimwear to her - she was receptive. Before our first vacation to Miami Beach, I got her a few Malibu Strings thong bikinis which she wore with pleasure (the tops didn't get used much) while I wore my Ergowear and N2N thongs by her side.

I just realized I have a kind of different response to this question and that I never posted it before. I got my first thong bikini style suit as underwear to wear under my wetsuit. I think I was about 16 at the time; the regular shorts style bathing suit was too uncomfortable to wear under the wetsuit and I didn't want to go freeballing in a wetsuit I shared with my friends.
