I've always liked to wear as little as possible when out in the sun, so about 15 years ago I just decided to get a thong at haven't looked back. I was making adjustments anyway on whatever I was wearing, so I figured what the heck!

Actually, gals, I prefer thongs probably because of my anatomy. I have a relatively narrow waist compared to really broad hips which pulls up everything I wear and having broader sides and strap usually keeps the strap in place better, while stringier things being narrower are at greater risk of being hiked up in me.
You might try buying larger sizes to prevent getting hiked up. My waist says "medium" but my hips scream "extra large" so I'll try to buy the latter size when I can, or at least larges. Twenty years I would have been horrified at buying large sizes, but comfort trumps pride.
Commando, though, is best when possible. Very rarely as long as I'm wearing a long skirt and it's not breezy I'll go commando out of the house, but normally I will only if I know I won't be going anyhwere and I have a washable skirt on that's long enough to cover my butt when I sit.

I puchased my first thong bikini by accident at an airport shop. I needed more swimwear and went into the shop in a rush to get a small bikini type of costume which I paid for and slipped into my bag before going through to boarding. When I arrived in Tenerife, I discovered it had a thong back. I was very nervous about wearing it in public but after some days topping up my tan, I decided I would try it. My wife and I went down to the beach in shorts and when she removed these and her top, I saw she was in a modest one piece. I felt even more nervous then but took off my shorts as she was on the way down the beach and followed behind her towards the sea as I thought we might both be embarrassed. I suddenly discovered that I had left my watch on so had to re-trace my steps back to our towels so the first view my wife had of the thong was a back view of me going up the beach.
I went down to the sea to join her and she made no comment and once in the sea, I felt much happier. After a long swim, we came out of the water and I was still nervous about walking up the beach. However, no one stared or commented and all my wife said was " That's a brief costume" and I replied "You don't mind, do you" to which her comment was
"It's up to you"
After that I became much more confident and wore the thong costume on some days and bikini briefs on others. After a few days, I was quite happy walking along the beach in the thong, along the promenade and even into one or two shops on the prom.
Since that accidental purchase, I have bought three more thongs, each briefer than the first although two of them I only dare wear on our balcony.

good for you, and good for you, that your wife is okay with you wearing a thong...and leaving that up to you...even though she wears a modest one peice...i think you need to buy her some thongs...

Thank you for your good wishes. I do not know how successful I will be. I have the opposite problems to some of the posters. Rachel first went toplesss on our honeymoon
and then regularly in the eighties when we used to holiday in the south of France (we are in our fifties, now). Then she sunbathed and was happy to be topless with very small briefs. I have some wonderful photos of her during that period and in the nineties in Greece. Unfortunately in more recent years, she has seldom gone topless and now tends to wear one piece costumes except on our balcony despite my encouragement to wear bikinis and go topless as she still has an excellent figure.
I respect her views although feel frustrated that she will not let others enjoy her impressive looks and that she will not join me in wearing a thong or bikini bottoms only.

mick--- i think the reason she covers up, is that you keep telling her to go topfree, or naked...stop pestering her...and i bet, she will go topless.....she is revolting against you right now..leave her alone and see what happens..
