Having the courage to thong

Unless it's absolutely against the law, then you can wear thongs on the beach. You just have to get your courage together and go do it. Yes people will look, just the same as people will look if a women goes topless, but you have to overcome that fear of other people looking.

Men worry about people, (mainly men) disproving, but topless women have it just as hard becuase although men may approve of women going topless they catch a lot of dirty looks from other jealous women.

Most of the time people are looking for a beach where other people are already in thongs or topless, but some one has to be first. Just go and be bold. Others may soon follow your example.

The other beach users are not going to coordinate with you on making next Sunday week at 10am a topless and thong time. So it is quite possible that a lot of people go to the beach and go topless or wear a thong but you don't see them because they are no there are the same time as you. Therefore you should expect to be the only one. Being the only one makes you an individual and not part of the herd.

You may want to check the NJ beach reports on the
Thong Wears Message Board. Go there and do a search for the state and beaches you are thinking about going to.

I think it's a lot easier if you're with a gal if you're going to be the only (or first) one. If it's just a single guy, many people think it's weird when you are the only guy on the entire beach in a thong. But if you're with a woman, then it seems more "normal." Either people will think you're married (our case) or that you're some gay guy hanging out with the gals which somehow seems less weird in many's minds. So that's what I would recommend if you need courage for appearance's sake, invite a female to go with you.

Another thing in that report that caught my attention was that 40% of respondents reported they planned to go skinny-dipping that summer. I assume the number that ever have, ever plan to or are open to the idea is much higher. To me this enforces the idea that the prevalent attitude against skinny-dipping is probably driven by a vocal minority.

I also think it is very important for us to "just go out and do it". Whether you're a women seeking to go topfree at the beach or a guy seeking to wear a thong, all you have to do is ask someone first (lifeguard, hotel desk clerk, etc.) if you think you may get in trouble. Often as not they will say it is ok. Then, remember that this is not a beauty contest. (Yes, I know men are far more guilty than women of making the beach scene into a beauty contest.) Sure, everybody would rather look at a fit person than an obese person, male or female. And sure, if you are overweight, you should strive to change that. But that said, if you feel like wearing a thong or going topfree, you should do it, regardless. I am always amazed at how generally accepting people are of my tiny thong when I wear it on crowded public beaches.

Couldn't agree more. Can't remember being told by the staff that my g-string was unacceptable at a resort pool. Have been told that I was the only person who has ever been game enough to wear one, but I take that as a compliment!

Also found that as a general rule, the more people on a beach, the less likely some immature idiot will hassle me. Also if some moron does turn up, there is a good chance there will be someone else there telling him (yes, the moron will undoubtedly be male) to get lost.

Cheers,
Graeme

You are right, it is a compliment. And I had never thought about being less likely to be hassled on a crowded beach, but thinking back over the past several years, I would agree. The moron is almost always male, usually overweight, probably with an illegal beer in hand, and wearing dork shorts for sure. Perhaps a crowded beach acts as some sort of deterrent to someone like that making an as* of himself, not sure.

This is going to sound fairly naive, but I'm old and get to ask stupid questions. Is it really illegal to wear a thong in some places? Understand, I'm a guy who hasn't owned a swimsuit in 20years. When I swim I go to a nude beach, or now to a nudist resort, so I haven't been on a textile beach in a while. I had a girl friend who wanted me to wear thong u/w but I was never comfortable in them, even though many girls liked them. I was more comfortable nude. I also have always it was silly to spend that much money on something the size of 3 or 4 non-smoking patches when you can just be nude. (And have no tanlines)

Yes, Tomwho, unfortunately it is illegal in some places. And even when it isn't illegal, as others have noted, that doesn't stop people from thinking and acting like it is (including, sometimes police and others in authority). You are probably lucky being in California; other parts of the country can be much more uptight. But, the good news is that it isn't illegal in very many places, so many of us need to be more adventurous in wearing what we want, even if it is only a very tiny minority.
