I think its hard to generalize about whether more men or women are exhibitionists; there are plenty of examples to back up each claim as we have seen. One other factor might have to do with appreciation from the opposite sex. Take swim suits. Why does your average young man wear the most unflattering shorts that hang down below his knees? Whereas the average young woman wears an attractive, often quite small bikini? It would be easy to say this shows women are more exhibitionist than men, but I am not so sure. Might it be because too many women out there (not posters on this board, I am sure) don't like men to show off their bodies, and actually seem to prefer those long shorts. On more than one occasion, when wearing a thong at a public beach I have overheard comments like "that's not cool" or "I would never let my man dress like that". Now we all know few men object to women in tiny bikinis, thongs or topless. Perhaps that explains some of the differences.

i don't think that has much to do with exhibitionism, just fashion. guys who show off their bodies are thought of to be gay. i wear shorts to the beach (above the knee, not the ridiculously long ones) because i don't want people to laugh at me. it might be less practical in the water, but that's just the way it is. i hope i didn't offend anyone. i don't feel this way, but the general public does.

One nice thing about being old is that you get past the fear of being laughed at. Being cowed by that fear means allowing yourself to be tyrannized by the least intelligent teenagers, mostly male, who hang around in groups and ridicule anything slightly non-conforming.
I urge Newfieguy to wear a speedo, as I do, or anything else subject to ridicule by teenage lowlifes, listen to the jokes at his expense, and simply ignore them. Before long doing so will be easy.

It happened last year on a camping ground. I was assembling our tandem folding kayak and it was incredibly hot. So I just wore a string tanga when a group of teenagers passed by. Some of them were jiggling of course but one boy said "I am wearing strings too." I answered good for you
.
When they returned he repeated his statement and I just mentioned, good that then makes two of us.
Next morning, we were having our breakfast when the youngsters past by again and again that one boy claimed to wear strings. So what could I do - ignore him? That is not the way I handle young people. So I said to him, hey son, you are repeating yourself. Repeating is a habit of aras because they cannot think for themselfes and therefore quite often sound rather silly. I think, that´s not what you want, to appear silly.
From then on, the group of teens -boys as well as girls- whenever we met said friendly hallo or good mornig or whatever was appropriate.
