Re: Exhibitionism
meredith, i agree with you. if i wanted to wear speedos, i wouldn't let other people's opinions bother me. but i have no desire to wear anything less than shorts. except maybe wearing nothing, but that opportunity hasn't been available to me yet.

Re: Exhibitionism
I think there is a little exhibitionist about most of us - at least I hope it's not just me! Our back garden is relatively private, with only one house overlooking. The next door neighbour in that house is forever peering over when I'm sunbathing nude or working topless around the place. I just pretend not to see him, but I imagine we both enjoy the experience!

Re: Exhibitionism
Trudy, don't worry, you're definitely NOT the only one! My Ukrainian g/f Ludmila is normally very, very reserved in public and even she has shown an exhibitionistic streak.
Ludmila first went topless when we spent several days in Mirgorod in August 2005 (described in greater detail in my post on page 8 of the topic "First time topless"), when the two of us spent an afternoon in a secluded spot on a river bank outside Mirgorod. When we decided to return to the sanatorium where we were staying, Ludmila simply put on her skirt over her bikini bottom and her T-shirt- no bra or bikini top- and suggested we walk back barefoot until we reached the concrete footpath to/from Mirgorod (most of the walk was on dirt tracks through the woods). This was the first time I had seen her go braless outdoors, but I simply assumed she had no bra with her and would put it on when we were back in our room, it being too much of a hassle to first put her bikini top on and removing it later.
WRONG!
When we reached the concrete footpath we paused to put on our footwear; since I had to put on socks as well as shoes Ludmila finished putting on her shoes first. While waiting for me to finish (and to my utter surprise given how reserved she normally is, especially in public) she then, without saying a word, calmly first removed her T-shirt, then searched her bag for her bra and put it on before finally putting her T-shirt on again; all this without the least fuss or making even the slightest effort to hurry- and, I might add, in full view of everybody who was on the concrete footpath. She did not even bother to turn her back to the footpath but remained facing towards it, so everybody could (and did) get a full view of her breasts!

Re: Exhibitionism
I think the way we’re brought up has a lot to do with our exhibitionist tendencies. I grew up near the beach and practically live in tiny bikini and my parents never discouraged me. At first it wasn’t about the attention but I was never shy about my body. I use to walk or bike back and forth to the beach in nothing but my bikini. I’d even stop in the stores in it on occasions.
As I got older the looks and attention that the guys gave me kind of gave me a thrill so it continued. Some of the more interesting moments came when trying to stay in it while body surfing. It was a bit nerve racking but the threat of looking my bikini or flashing a cute guy always made it exciting.
In college I went on some vacation with my girlfriend and learned the joy of topfreedom and skinny dipping. Now that's the way to enjoy the beach. Now I have a pool in the back yard and a perfect tan to go with it.
Nothing better.

@BikiniGirl
You´re a girl, aren´t you - sorry for my stupid question, but I´m a little bit irritated. May it comes from translation problems.
Love,
yours - female - Nicci

Re: Exhibitionism
Nicci72,
For the first time, I am puzzled by one of your responses. I read your original response and went back over BikiniGirl's most recent entries. In one of them, she signs herself off as Carrie. Did her poor command of grammar and spelling confuse you? She could either be a fast typer or be slightly lacking in grammatical skills. Don't let it bother you!

Re: Exhibitionism
Nicci,
Deutsche Grammatik is sehr kompliziert, aber Englische Grammatik is ganz einfach, nicht wahr?
You clearly missed something in Bikinigirl's post, but you English is good and, I am sure, had nothing to do with the misunderstanding. Do you agree with me about the grammar of the two languages?

@Matrix Runner @Meredith
Sorry first of all, but I didn´t look back so I didn´t find the signed name of Carrie. This would have made it clear for me.
My problems came from the need of thinking it twice - in German and in English. And from the irritation which the three quoted little parts can do when you´ve the need to think it twice:
- "Bikini" is in German exclusivly used for a female swimsuit - but in English it is also used for a small male swimsuit which is not so small as a thong.
- "flashing a cute guy": what´s going on???
- "vacation with my girlfriend": Girlfriend = German: "Freundin" you would use in German as a term only for a person with which you have an intimate, at least very close personal relationship. Especially when you pronounce that you made a vacation with her.
When you think in German it´s easy to forget that the term "girlfriend" has not the same connotation in English but a broader sense - as it happened to me.
Btw: It´s not the only case in which a German term includes the personal relationship to another person. Another very important case is the personal form of adressing: In English it´s simply "You". You´ve no need to think always about your personal relationship to another person when you talk or write to him or her. You simply say or write "you" and that´s it. No possibility to made something wrong.
But in German you´ve the very important difference between "Du" and "Sie": Never say "Du" to a person with which you´re not on a very close personal relationship! It would be an ugly insult. But also don´t say "Sie" to a person with which you´re on a very close personal relationship: It would give the message that you want to break off this close personal relationship.
So you´ve always to think about your personal relationships when you talk or write in German. That can easily lead to misunderstandings when you implement this thinking into English - and it´s then difficult to explain your problem to an English native speaker for which it is not understandable.
In summary: German is too difficult.
Sorry again.
Nicci.

Re: Exhibitionism
Liebe Nicci,
As my parents used to tease me with,"Deutsch Sprache seihen eine schwere Sprache. Komm ich nach Zug,ist Bahnhof abgefahren."
(The German language is a difficult language.I get the train, the station has left.)
Luckily for me, ever since I was a small child,my parents spoke in German to me.To this day, whenever I'm with my mother,we converse in in her mother tongue.
It stood me in good stead when I visited germany a few years ago.
John

Re: Exhibitionism
quote: DavyJ1 wrote:
Take swim suits. Why does your average young man wear the most unflattering shorts that hang down below his knees? Whereas the average young woman wears an attractive, often quite small bikini? It would be easy to say this shows women are more exhibitionist than men, but I am not so sure. Might it be because too many women out there (not posters on this board, I am sure) don't like men to show off their bodies, and actually seem to prefer those long shorts. On more than one occasion, when wearing a thong at a public beach I have overheard comments like "that's not cool" or "I would never let my man dress like that". Now we all know few men object to women in tiny bikinis, thongs or topless. Perhaps that explains some of the differences.
Lots of it is just cultural norms. Most people don't want to go too far outside the realm of what's considered acceptable by the majority. That's why so many of us go topfree on European vacations or in South Beach but would never want to be the first woman to "test the water" somewhere else where no other topfree women are.
Guys can be plenty exibitionist, they just do it in a different way. Plenty of hot guys just can't keep their shirts on but would never wear speedos, because a shirtless man is "manly" while speedos are associated with gay men to many. It's not always like that. I've posted about my Brazilian neighbors on this forum; the speedos and the girl wears thongs. I was in Miami 2 months ago and there were lots of hot Latin guys in speedos.
