Re: Too much exposure

As the hostess, she had the right to ask me to cover up. By taking off my tank top I just followed my own rule that its better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. So I just said 'no problem' and put it back on.

We had all had a couple of drinks before going in the pool, and usually that loosens everybody up. But the hostess was uptight, so end of story. If I am invited back, which is probably unlikely, I'll be sure to wear a more transparent tank.

From my experience, it is very rare that anyone will ask you to cover up, but if they do, then the best thing is to comply rather than make a scene by getting thrown out or leaving in a huff. That would be childish.

I'm surprised this is a first for you. In the places I have lived (except, I suppose, my first few years in Germany), at very few kinds of occasions like these would you not have gotten this kind of reaction from the hostess.

It was a pool party and its your body so only you should be able to decide what you wear. I suppose she could always ask you to leave but its really none of her business to be telling you to put your top back on. if she doesnt like you being topfree then she should look the other way. She wouldnt like it if you went around telling her what to wear. Each time women give in and just put on the top they give more power to the anti-topfree crowd and encourage them to continue to supress women's right to go topfree. Women should have control over their own bodies.

They should NEVER ask you to cover up! Its your body. Women are never going to get the freedom to go topfree unless they stand up to these people and dont just give in and become submissive every time some fussy person barks at them to cover up. Sometimes the word NO isnt a bad thing. Sure you might get thrown out but in the end at least you keep your dignity and your hostess is the one who makes herself look like an ass. A hostess who throws a woman out for going topfree is obviously not very hospitable.

I’ll second Elizabeth on this one.
My sister would be okay with it, but all my wife’s relatives and close friends (and unfortunately my wife!) would be in shock. And that’s in Australia where virtually every beach is top free.

Cheers,
Graeme

Easy for Mike to say what women should do;he won't bear the brunt of the repercussions.

I hate the Idea of censorship.

However, with Mike I am about to hurl.

Please Mike conduct yourself with class and decorum and quit telling the wonderful ladies her what the should or should not do.

Thank you for listening.

Thats funny you dont mind society telling you to put a top on in public but when I suggest you to exercise your right to go topfree then you seem to have a problem. Wouldnt you much rather someone tell you what you can do instead of someone telling you what you cannot do? I advocate freedom, these other people advocate supressing women's rights for their own selfish ends.

Im confident the women here are tough enough to handle anything that is thrown their way as a result of them going topfree. Whats freedom without a little risk hmm?

mike you have to realize that these women have normal lives they want to enjoy. they are not standing up for topfree rights every time they step outside their door. they may agree with your ideas, but it's not worth getting kicked out of friends house parties. carly handled the situation perfectly. she showed she likes going topfree, but listened to the hosts request and put her top back on. i think that alone helps topfreedom. you can't push your opinions on people.

Re: Too much exposure

As with the Henry Louis Gates thing- there are many sides to the whole thing, like in Rashamon.

Perhaps it wasn't the hostess that was upset with the topless. Another guest may have complained to the hostess, who then asked Carley to cover up. What I find amusing is that a wet Tee can be far sexier than just being topless, so asking Carly to cover up may have had the opposite effect of the one desired! Carley, maybe you should get some Wicked Weasel transparent tops in order to comply with the letter of the request, but not the spirit. More than likely the one who objected to you being topless was less than secure in a relationship with someone who had a roaming eye.

I believe Carly did more for topfreedom by putting her top on, than by arguing with the host. It showed respect for the host and maybe it got other women wishing they had the courage to go swimming topfree.

Who's to say that Carly going topfree didn't get other women wanting to have the confidence to go topfree.

I believe the men enjoyed it. Or maybe that was the problem, someone's husband or b/f liked it too much.
