We stayed on North Captiva for a few days in February, 2008, and the southern 2/3 is a wildlife sanctuary. We walked down the beach on the Gulf side and other than an occasional walker, I doubt if you'd have a problem being topfree or even nude, particularly if you had a towel or thong close by if you had visitors. We've been topfree (my wife) and nude on the North Carolina Outer Banks, and other than the fact that North Captiva has a lot more vegetation growing right up to the beach, it reminded me a lot of OBX.
North Captiva was very relaxing but there's only one restaurant and a deli on the island, unless you stay at the club on the island, which has a restaurant for members only. Too rich for our blood. Also, the only ways to get there are by boat or airplane - there's a 2000 ft grass strip that goes shore to shore across the island. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
