All of the problems that occur on Hatteras Island can be avoided by going further South to Ocracoke Island. Topless is fine and so are thongs. My wife and I were recently on the island on one of the nude sections. A park ranger drive his vehicle from the North down the beach. Everyone put something on their bottoms. When the ranger approached, they gathered around his truck topless and talked with him. No hassles.

My wife and I are planning a trip to the Outer Banks in June 2007, haven't heard much about the area recently, is Ocracoke still the best spot to go???

No problem whatsoever on Okrakoke Island. My husband, my boys and I went in May 2006. We camped at the National Park Campground. We chose a site along the beach away from others. I was always topless on the beach and began to remain topless around camp. The ladies at the checkin office joked with my husband that our end of the camp has become much more popular since we showed up. By the time our week came to the end 5 other women around us went topless around camp. I really didn't see anyone sunbathing totally nude, however I can tell you that my teenage sons peed openly on the beach and at our campsite throughout the week and no one ever complained.

Well, if there aren't any restrooms around there's only two places available, you know, so you don't have a lot of options ...  I'd rather see people peeing on the beach (assuming they aren't obnoxious about it) than think they're doing it in the water. Yes, I know the ocean's big and dirty but I don't like thinking I'm in water somebody could have peed in.
Besides, in the water basically a girl ends up peeing on herself so I find it neater to pee on the beach and if possible then take a dip.

My wife and I leave tomorrow morning for a four-day weekend vacation in the OBX. We'll be on the Hatteras Island beach in Buxton (motel) on Friday afternoon, Ocracoke Island (day trip) on Saturday, and Nags Head (motel) on Sunday. Any advice or location suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

nags head and further south are known to be good places, but i do not have any current infor. I can say that i started my public thong bikini wearing there some 15 years ago...and will not wear anything but a thong bikini to this day, whether at the beach or in my yard.
Losing the top is my goal for this year, and being a single female, think that the more populated areas of the outer banks would be best. After all, they accepted my thong bikini before it was even close to routine, and my body is still in good shape. Please let us know of the attitudes in that area when you return from vacation. Enjoy!

Our first day in the OBX (Buxton)was unseasonably cool and the ocean was really rough so we din't make it to the beach that day. The second day of our trip we went to Ocracoke, this island ended up being the highlight of our trip, next time we're just going to stay on the island. We went to the beach on Ocracoke across from the pony pens, setting up down the beach next to the sixty-four mile marker, we both laid out and went swimming in our skimpiest g-strings with my wife topless all day without any hassles...other than the occasional glance. Our third day in Nags Head ended up being a shopping day, the beach was almost gone there due to erosion and what little beach that was left was covered with young children and their parents, it was unfortunate that since our last trip to Nags Head how it has changed...the place has turned into tourist central...next time we'll stay south so we can get some peace and quiet. We didn't see anyone else in a thong or topless during our entire vacation, believe me...we looked, so much for strength in numbers.

thank you for the report! It sounds like althogh topfree in nags head is legal, it may not be all that comfortable for a single girl, in a mostly family atmosphere.
Looks as tho a boyfriend will be going with me, which will add a lot of security for me. he promises to "check my top" at the car, and let me be free.
Enjoy the rest of your vacation, and i am looking forward to mine, quite a bit!
