Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
anne,
What an inspiring trip posting you made! But, may I add that the nicest beach days on the outerbanks are in the fall. Perhaps the last beach day of the season was thursday, late October. The weather was sunny, mid eighties, and my ass was on the the beach topfree and in thong, enjoying the fading warmth of the low-sun and still-warm surf. A bit windy tho!
An experience as your own, I used the showers topfree, not worrying about the ultra conservatives that sometimes pop-up there unexpectantly. The day was very pleasant, nice but infrequent company, and sorry to see it end. Just two days later and the weather is in the 50's with a cold rain.

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
Ocracoke is GREAT! Been going there for years. My bride is always topfree on the beach. One fun thing to do on Ocracoke is bike riding around the village. She has made a few night time passes through the village topfree on a bicycle, wearing only shorts and a painted on top. Street lights illuminate the village in areas, as do the headlights of passing cars. We were walking one evening and were passed by a Sheriff's Patrol car. My bride was wearing her shorts and a painted on bikini top. He did not even notice.
We were in the Pony Island hotel pool one evening. We were both in thongs only. A man and his topfree companion joined us for an after dark swim and a couple of hours of conversation while the ladies remained topfree. Ocracoke is a really laid-back place. We enjoy the slow pace and free atmosphere.

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
The wife and I always stay in Rodanthe, we go north a couple of miles park then cross the dunes, we are able to be nude there. The only problem is the wind, it's terrible.
There are a few people that walk it and if they do just I just throw a towel over me but the wife stays top free.

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
I recently made a trip to NC to visit my brother and we went on a small road trip to visit the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. Unfortunately I was 1) with my brother and 2) it was REALLY cold and windy, so there wasn't really any chance of me going topfree or nude on the beach in NC. Definitely a beautiful state, though!

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
I've been considering driving up from Charleston to Bird Island/Sunset beach for the last 2 years, but I never get around to it.
However, the last few reports I've heard aboit BI is that it's patroled too much, too may beach walkers, and never any topless or nude people.
Perhaps it's the day of the week, the time of the day and even the time of the year/season.
I also considered doing the bike thong but I would want packed sand going both directions.
Are there any rports from later in the Summer or Fall in 2008 about Bird?? Would it be worth the hasle coming up from Charleston and driving back? Or staying the night and driving back the next day?

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
Well, sadly the last time we were there was after the hurricane that hit NC and the dunes were badly erroded, it was too windy and the flies were biting too hard. We have not returned and now it's too cold to go. As much as we liked going nude, it was impossible, we stayed for about an hour and left.
Probably in late April or May we can report back.

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
We're thinking about Okracoke for September, but a couple things concern us. A lot of comments describe the wind. Is that a big problem in September?
Also, are any of the motels/hotels topfree friendly?

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
September in Ocracoke is a wonderful time. The wind should be no great problem unless there is a tropical storm or hurricane nearby. Then you do not want to be any where near the Outer Banks.
I suggest that you confine your topless activity on Ocracoke to the beach or maybe the National Park Service Campground. Topless is definitely allowed and there is absolutely no hassle from the Park Rangers. They ride by you as they patrol the beach and wave. My wife walks for miles on the beach wearing nothing but a thong. We make it a point to walk north of the Pony Pasture to avoid small kids.
As I read through this thread, I realize that so many people do not realize that Ocracoke is the preferred topless destination in North Carolina. Most of the residents are quite liberal and there is a Bohemian atmosphere on the island that you do not find elsewhere. And where else can you walk on a beach for thirteen miles and there is no house or building in sight?

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
Ocracoke is the best for wearing thongs and g-strings for both men and women. miles and miles of uncrowed beaches. Just walk a short ways from the crossovers and enjoy.Full nudity is also sometimes seen.

Re: North Carolina's Outer Banks
My wife and I are planning a vacation to Ocracoke for a week this summer. We have both been there before but not together. I was with a prior girlfriend who went topless and I just wore a bikini. Now, my wife and I are both thong enthusiasts and she also prefers topless. I have also heard from others that topless is okay for her and thongs or g-strings for us both are okay there. We'll just avoid families with kids and hope all goes well.
