OK, this is the last time (I promise) that I'm going to put forward a points suggestion.

If people agree with it (or something similar to it) I would be happy to put it forward to the committee for consideration

Win 8pts
Tie 4 pts
NR 2pts
Loss 0 pts

Bonus points (awarded to both sides in both innings)

2 an over 1pt
3 an over 2pts
4 an over 3pts
5 an over 4pts

4/5 wkts 1pt
6/7 wkts 2pts
8/9 wkts 3pts
10 wkts 4pts

Therefore to get max points you'd have to score 220 and bowl the other side out - by anyones standards a good days work.

You'd probably also, in reality, bat first, on a well prepared track.

Or is this too radical?

I'd also be interested if people think it would be worth putting something forward regarding reduced 2nd innings targets in rain affected games.

I would definately agree with that Coddy.

Also the PS definately needs a method of leveling out scores both for first and second innings during rain affected games.

The first innings is always a problem when it rains after 25 overs and you don't get to bat again!

In all seriousness - would it be too much to use Duckworth Lewis or do you need a super computer at every ground? Or is there a more simplistic method for us thickos?

And for all you real stattos!

Duckworth Lewis calculator

Right click and "save target as" on your desktop then unzip

Re: Rule changes.

when i was at uni. we used duckworth and lewis. All we had was a contact number and we rang them for a break down. This probably costs a registration fee though.

Also wont bonus points for batting in second innings need defined.

If a team is chasing 120 and are 60 all out off 10 overs would they get 5 bonus batting points?

Toyboy - you are a lot more intelligent than me so whatever you suggest it will baffle me!

There has long been a discussion about BPs for scores acheived but many clubs complained about this favouring smaller grounds. Personally I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that the scores are, on average, higher at smaller grounds than they are at larger ones but that would need to be examined!!! SO you could do:

1 point per 50 runs scored to a max of 5. It just seems easier to work out when you're batting!!!

Re: Rule changes.

In the second innings bonus points should be awarded to the losing team as follows:-

Bowling:- Wickets taken
5 Wickets = 1 Point
6 Wickets = 2 Points
7 Wickets = 3 Points
8 Wickets = 4 Points
9 Wickets = 5 Points

Batting – Points should be awarded for getting within so many runs of the first innings total as follows:-
within 50 runs 1 Point
within 40 runs 2 Points
within 30 runs 3 Points
within 20 runs 4 Points
within 10 runs 5 Points

In rain affected games bonus points wshould be awarded from the amended total and not the original total.

In a completed game in addition to any bonus points earned by the losing side in the second innings the following points should be awarded:-

Win 10 points or Tie 7 points (scores tied irrespective of number of wickets taken/lost)

and

To any side bowling out the opposition 2 points

In any uncompleted Game 3 points should only be awarded to each team.
