Re: Cup Games....
What annoys me Is clubs who have joined the league in recent years - realise that they are going to struggle to win something, so are now wanting the league to restructure asto give them a chance of winning something.
Eccleston made it to the Meyler final a few years ao when they were in Div 2 - they didnt complain that they had to play a Prem side

Re: Cup Games....
What about all the clubs that have been in there much longer than 'a few years' though?
Tbh... as you can most probably tell... there is massive difference between division 5 and divison 2. So why should the division 5 lads play a game on a Sunday when they know they will almost definately thrashed?
It's no fun if there isn't a game at stake, and it's just batting practice for the team who are in a much higher league.

Re: Cup Games....
You should play sport to win - if you go into a game expecting to lose then whats the point in turning up.
Quite often our 3rds (div 4) draw vccc 3 (div2)
do we kick and scream about it - or do we go out trying to win? i think you will find its the latter.
You should want to play against the best players, as it should be a extra challenge for you

Youngdiver, I'll think you'll find that the majority of the clubs that have dropped out of the cup competitions are not clubs that have joined over the past 10 years, but those that have been in the league for much longer!
I don't know of any of the ex-Chorley-league sides forfeiting games, but can remember this season Springfields & Wrea Green forfeiting games even before the 1st opportunity for them to be played! The others were after the problems of the weather and travelling too many times.

Re: Cup Games....
Thats why i have said that the cups format should not be changed.
If a club decides to opt out at the start of the season thats one thing (instead of forfieting)
However - Changing the rules so the cups are structured differently cheapens the cups.
If a Div 4 Third team wins the crabtree at the moment they know they have done better than third teams in the division above.

Its not much fun for youngster who have to face quality bowling or bowl at quality batters, if they get clattered or dont get any runs then they dont enjoy it.
I personally like playing against quality opposition but im older and am in a position to challenge myself, younger players arent always settled in the team.

Re: Cup Games....
Thik it depends on the players themselves, If we wrap juniors(to who you say the issue is about) in cotton wool - they will start to get ego's that they are better than what they are. Then when the time comes for them to step up from Div4/6 to div2 they will be unprepared as they have never dipped in versus better players.
Especially with the demise of Sunday league.
I for one (when i was 16/17) learnt alot more about bowling after seeing Sturzy (1xi player) punishing one of our experienced 2nd teamers for 63 off 3 overs in the sunday team, knowing that i never wanted that to happen to me so i would actually put some effort in.
Having a comfort level may be favourible to some clubs/players - but the teams who are doing well are those who want to play to the best they can.
