Re: Whatcha Got?
'61 Sedan, Red/Silver (not my paint job), 2180cc, dual Dell's but don't know the size just yet.
Unknown on the tranny as of yet. I haven't had the time to drop the motor for more info.
Here's a pic, just like the one I posted earlier.
The only thing is that I'm still getting to know this car. I bought it from a person that didn't know much about VW's. I'm finding out about the true condition of the car as I pull in apart to upgrade or clean. Don't you love someone else's work?
Anyhow, there are billit goodies all over the car. The interior is by SewFine from what I can see. The rims look like Empi 5-spoke. Too bad I have 4 drums instead of 4 discs for brakes.
Currently I have a cooling issue when I drive at 70mph for more than 10 minutes. When I drive around town all day I don't have issues with the cooling, go figure. I'm working on the cooling issue and hope to have it fixed soon.
I love driving this bug, she's fast........and loud.
Edit: Forgot to mention I've got a '65 Type 3 Karmann Ghia. Basket case but I still own it. Currently it's in NorCal in storage. I won't talk much about it until I get hold of it again. I'd like to have it here to work on but I'll explain later.

Re: Whatcha Got? Overheat @ speed
re: Heating up at highway speeds
Be sure you are not running lean on your carb (main) jets. A sure sign is really clean exhaust tips.
I tried a lot of things on a 1776 years ago. The only thing that helped was hinge extenders. However, I eventually found out that the long block builder had combined a light flywheel with a non-counterbalanced crank and the engine was just shaking itself to pieces at speed. But that is another story. The westcoast builder is now out of business. But, those hinge extenders were the best money I have ever spent for cooling. Now I run them on my 1915. I'm afraid to NOT use them. ha ha.
Good luck. You have a fine looking Vdub.

Re: Whatcha Got?
I should have my overheating issue resovled soon. My car is being worked on by Doug over at Jusbugs.
I installed the decklid risers but I could not get my decklid to latch so I removed it completely. Once I get all settled down in Memphis I'll be installing a new welded fan and a sump kit. Once that is done I'll be looking to install a full flow filter set and external cooler. Hopefully I won't have anymore issues.

Re: Whatcha Got?
1974 Superbeetle Convertible.
Just started working on her this month. Engine seems good so far. Rear end to low (lowered), electrical oddities and rusty floor pan.
Anyone know of a recommended place for a new paint job in middle Tennessee?

Re: Whatcha Got?
Guten tag! Icht haben ein....
SKIP IT.
HEY! I'll be bringing home a 72 super bug this weekend, just thought I'd say HEY and all that...
I worked on air-cooled VW way back in the late seventies at an awesome pro shop in San Diego California, and with fuel costs what they are I wanted it BACK!
I lucked into a deal, and it's going to be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
Canary yellow though - I may have to work with that. It has (icht haben sie) the original engine tho - AMAZING!
1600 dual port. I LIKE it...

Re: Whatcha Got?
What I know for sure about it is:
1974 Super Beetle, 1600 motor, Auto-Stick, fires right up on first 1/2 second crank, Idles well, stalls often when taking off when it's cold. Both door locks inoperable, good deal of rust on the rockers, have not had the courage to pull the carpeting up yet.... Ohh and it's "in hiding" up in Millington, the wife does not know I have it, yet. She knows I've been looking but she does not knwo I bought one, yet.

Re: Whatcha Got?
This is my 1959 Baja bug and it's my daily driver. I would love to travel to your neck of the woods someday. I plan on doing some VW cruises across the States and visit other clubs hopefully in the summer of 2009. Maybe go to a cruise or something. I live in Idaho. Howdy Memphis, how's the weather out there? Hope you like my Bug!
