2006 New Beetle Headlamp removal
Hello,
The article by Mike C. on New Beetle Headlight and Bulb Replacement mentions a "release lever" for the headlight assembly. I have a 2006 New Beetle, and there is no such "lever". However, there is a small metal "post" (looks like the end of an allen wrench) sticking out from where the "lever" is supposed to be. There is no knob, just the "post". There is a small picture of a headlamp next to it, and small pictures of a closed lock and an open lock, with a two-way arrow between them, indicating that if I turn the post, the headlight assemply will lock or unlock, depending on how I turn the post. My question: Is there a special tool required to turn this post, or can I just grab it with a wrench and turn it? Second question: Will I need to remove the air filter housing to get at the post that unlocks the left headlamp assembly? Looks like a real tight area, and I can barely see the post.
Thank you in advance for your prompt response!

Re: 2006 New Beetle Headlamp removal
hey
no need to remove air box or battery,You will need a 12-15'' extension with a 5mm socket, simply turn the lock peg toward off about a turn and a half to unlock the headlamp assembly, then carefully push straight out and pry a little around the lamp-keeping it straight.it will come out, keep pressure on it.No need to unplug the wires, the socket stayes in the bracket.to install, push in and lock peg till it stops in reverse.good luck! mark
