Oil pouring from dipstick tube????

Hey guys,

Well it is Father's Day so the kids and Dad got the Manx dune buggy out and finally completed a cosmetic overhaul. It has a 1600 dual port, kadrons, and a single merged quiet pack muffler. Only problem is when we drive it the darn things slings oil every where!! I put a new sand seal pulley on it thinking it was the crank. Still lots of oil..but only at high revs under driving load. Finally found it. Oil is pouring out of the dipstick tube around the dipstick....this is totally new to me....what in the heck will cause this??????? Maybe one of the pressure relief valves is stuck?? It is a dual relief case I believe.......

Will anxiously await any and all comments you can give me on this one to Grvlguy@aol.com

Thanks!!!

Jerry in Nashville.

You are building up pressure in the crankcase. I had the same problem with a new 1776... oil leaking out of every place you could imagine... even the distributor hole.

You need to add a breather; if you already have one, you need to add more.

Stock breathers use a tube off the oil filler spout and runs to the air cleaner. I have heard of folks replacing this hose with a mini-airfilter looking one, just plugged onto where the hose normally plugs.

They also sell a lot of different after market breather set ups if you really have it bad. A common one is a 3 port breather box that mounts on the firewall or somewhere. Usually a hose is run to each valve cover (comes with a couple of fittings) and the 3rd can either run to the stock fitting on the filler spout and/or the air cleaner.

I am 95% sure this is all that is needed to fix you up.

This problem also points to excessive blow-by.

Could be stuck rings, scored barrels, high compression, or just sitting too long without running. Bugs like to be run a lot, it keeps them happy! emoticon
