Type III fuel injected fuel pumps

I am needing to replace an electronic fuel pump on a 1973 Type III with fuel injection. I have replaced it once with a original equipment fuelpump which costs around $150. I located a fuel pump made by Facet and sold by EMPI for around $35. One publication says it is not for fuel injection, however a mechanic told me it was ok to use. Will this fuel pump work and is it safe. Please respond!

Re: Type III fuel injected fuel pumps

emoticon I'm not an expert on VW FI.
However, the (cube shaped) Facet pumps that most VW stores sell are for replacement of the mechanical pump on carbed VWs. My experience is that these only put out 1 or 2 pounds of pressure. I have even ran one, myself, without a regulator.
They also only have one outlet. Your FI pump may have 2 outlets/lines. As a rule FI also requires fairly high pressure (aka 35 psi for late Beetles) The strongest Facet pump (racing), that I know of, only puts out 7 psi max.

Hope that helps
