Re: dist. help please!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to graciously bow out of this one, then. Don't want to tell no lies. Was thinking that you might have had an aftermarket unit or something.

Re: dist. help please!!!!!!!!!!
Normally an electronic distributor has two wires - signal from the pickups inside it. Some have an extra ground wire to ensure ground connectivety.
The module will have a power source wire (+12V), a ground (possibly through the mounting screws, maybe a wire as well), two signal wires to the distributor, and an output wire to the coil.
Electronic distributors with coil packs built in often have only a power wire for 12 volts, and high-voltage leads for your plugs - but I don't know if VW uses anything like that.
If it's a Robt Bosch system, you can probably download a schemo (wire diagram) from them, or by looking it up on the autozone do it yourself info pages.
*AZ has online manuals with wiring info for most things
