External oil cooler box and screen
The story of the number three cylinder is an old one. The oil cooler gets dirty, blocks the flow to the driver side jugs and heads, the #3 jug gets too hot, and the next thing you know it sucks an exhaust valve into the cylinder...
Too bad. So - so sad.
It's AVOIDABLE!
Check on it, try different ways to clean out junk in there. Try ways to avoid getting it in there to begin with...
Obvious is an external oil cooler. The cooler is placed across the entire air intake at the back of the blower doghouse shroud. Not so obvious is to put some wire screen window stuff over it in an aluminum housing.
The gen and doghouse still have to be pulled to clean everything, but at least it keeps the big stuff out.
Just mounting the external cooler over the inflow is enough - it gets rid of the one-side blockage of the cooler tower.
And the later coolers have smaller passages through them than the original ones
Your thoughts?
